Geometric Floor Bathroom Remodel in Columbine
About This Project
This bathroom in a 1975 Columbine ranch home had the original fiberglass tub surround from construction, vinyl sheet flooring over a wood subfloor, and no functioning exhaust fan. The homeowner wanted a full tile replacement that would modernize the space while working within the existing footprint.
The floor is a black-and-white geometric cement-look porcelain tile in a 8x8 format. The geometric pattern required careful centering so the pattern read symmetrically from the bathroom doorway. We used a 5/32 inch spacer to keep grout joints tight across the pattern, which is critical with a patterned tile because any variation in joint width shifts the visual geometry. The wall tile is a vertical-stacked large-format white porcelain that keeps the eye moving upward and makes the compact bathroom feel taller.
The wood subfloor had some flex at the threshold. We installed a Schluter Ditra decoupling membrane over the entire floor area before setting tile to isolate the tile plane from subfloor movement in this older Columbine home.

- Centered geometric floor tile layout on the bathroom doorway axis; set with 5/32 spacers for tight, consistent joints
- Set vertical-stack white wall tile and grouted both floor and walls with coordinating grout tones
