Herringbone Kitchen Backsplash in Littleton
About This Project
A Littleton homeowner in the Southpark area had a kitchen remodel underway and needed the backsplash done before cabinet installation was complete. The tile is a cream-glazed ceramic in a standard 2x4 format, installed in a 45-degree herringbone pattern. The herringbone layout adds visual interest to a neutral palette without introducing color or pattern contrast that would compete with the cabinet hardware and countertop veining.
The key craft decision on a herringbone backsplash is where the pattern is centered. We centered the layout on the range hood, which is the focal point of the wall, so the V-shape of the herringbone points symmetrically to the hood centerline. This prevents the common outcome of herringbone that looks random or off-center when you look at the stove head-on.
Grout is a warm off-white sanded grout at 1/16 inch joints. The subtle texture variation in the glaze gives the wall life under different lighting conditions without the grout reading as a strong graphic element.

- Applied warm off-white grout and sealed the grout joints against kitchen moisture and grease
