Moroccan Patchwork Bathroom in Littleton
About This Project
This Littleton homeowner wanted something that read as both warm and handcrafted in a compact bathroom that had previously been tiled in plain white subway. The wall behind the vanity and the side walls were tiled floor to ceiling with an encaustic-look porcelain in a Moroccan patchwork pattern. Each tile in the pattern is different, which means the layout required specific attention to rotation and variation so no two identical tiles ended up adjacent.
The floor is a small-format herringbone porcelain in a light stone tone that keeps the room grounded and does not compete with the wall. The wood floating vanity with vessel sink was installed by the homeowner's plumber after our tile work was complete. The tile runs behind the vanity so future changes are possible without a full retile.
This project is in the Arapahoe Hills neighborhood in Littleton, a mid-century area where the original bathroom footprints are compact but the ceilings are tall enough for full-height wall tile to read well.

What We Did
- Removed original subway tile and assessed substrate condition on cement board backing
- Planned tile rotation sequence across all wall surfaces to distribute pattern variety evenly
- Set wall tile using white polymer-modified thin-set to avoid gray bleed-through on the light grout joints
- Installed herringbone floor tile with a sanded grout in a warm gray tone to complement the wall palette
